Park Avenue Tulips

The tulips and cheery blossom trees along Park Avenue are in full bloom right now and the Upper East Side could not look prettier. The tulips are planted in a different color each spring and this year over 60,000 bulbs of a Darwin Hybrid called Golden Oxford were planted from 54th Street to 86th Street. The Fund for Park Avenue has been responsible for planting the bulbs since 1980 and relies solely on support from the community. Begonias are planted following the “Park Avenue Tulip Dig” which is a longstanding tradition that allows members of the community to dig up the spent bulbs for future use in their own gardens. If enough funds are raised this year, an additional planting of colorful mums will follow in the fall. The Fund is also in charge of installing the 104 lighted trees that line the Park Avenue Malls during the holidays.
